General Information To enter the program, children must be three years of age and residents of Holyoke. There is no fee for this program which operates as a Massachusetts Department of Education approved integrated special education program. Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Afternoon Session: 12:30 p.m.—3:00 p.m. There are no more than fifteen students per class. Morning Session children can have breakfast at school. Afternoon Session children can have lunch at school. All children can have a snack before they go home.

Metcalf School Vision

The vision of the Metcalf Preschool Program is to provide the opportunity for each child to understand one another as individuals and to discover the capabilities and talents of each other in a naturalistic, child centered preschool setting. The mission of the program is to promote the child’s language acquisition, pre-academic skills in reading, and numeracy, as well as social skill development.

Programs and Services

Children have access to classrooms with appropriate child centered equipment,
outdoor and indoor play areas, and the
school library.

Educational services are provided in the
primary language of the child.

Therapeutic staff members are allocated to
students with individual educational plans
that call for services such as speech therapy,
occupational therapy, physical therapy,
vision therapy, and behavior management.

Every classroom has two or three paraprofessionals as staff support.
