For five school days beginning on Friday, May 10, HPS classrooms will focus on age-appropriate mental health awareness lessons and activities as part of National Mental Health Awareness Week. Counseling teams will organize the learning opportunities for students along the following themes:

  • Friday, May 10 — Feel Good Friday: Do something you enjoy or something that makes you feel good. What emotions do you feel?

  • Monday, May 13 — Mindful Monday/Reflect and Persist Practice: Use coping skills such as deep breathing, coloring, mindfulness, and journaling.

  • Tuesday, May 14 — Talk it Up Tuesday/Connections: Tell someone how you feel, ask a friend how they are, or say hello to someone sitting alone.

  • Wednesday, May 15 — Wellness Wednesday: Think about how to show you care. Do something good for your body or eat a healthy snack.

  • Thursday, May 16 — Mental Health Action Day/Wear Green: Send personalized notes or digital messages of gratitude, encouragement, or humor to someone you have a personal connection with. Students and staff are also encouraged to wear green in acknowledgement of the importance of mental health.
