Jayden Hildigunnarsson

Dean Technical High School senior Jayden Hildigunnarsson was one of nearly 60 students from across Massachusetts to be formally recognized during the Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 10, at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. The event brought together top vocational students from across the state to celebrate their achievements and contributions to the workforce of tomorrow.

Earlier this spring, Dean staff selected Jayden to receive this prestigious honor, awarded annually to a student who has demonstrated exceptional skill, leadership, and dedication to their vocational field, as well as academic excellence and a commitment to helping others succeed.

“Jayden is a standout student in the Advanced Manufacturing program. He has consistently gone above and beyond in his technical studies and co-op placement at Mitchell Machine,” said Dean Principal Roseanne Caracciolo. “His analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and passion for continuous learning have set him apart as a true leader among his peers. Jayden has made an incredible impact at Dean Tech. His leadership, professionalism, and pursuit of excellence set him apart, and we are beyond proud to see him receive this well-earned recognition.”

Jack Mitchell, president of Mitchell Machine, described Jayden as one of the top five co-op students in the company’s 60-year history, noting his quick learning, technical ability, and commitment to success.

“Jayden represents the best of Dean Tech,” Mr. Mitchell said. “He is an exceptional student, a natural leader, and a dedicated mentor to his classmates. His passion for his craft and his drive for continuous improvement are what vocational education is all about.”

With a 3.78 GPA, Jayden has excelled academically while also balancing hands-on vocational training. “He has been instrumental in advanced machining projects, including reverse-engineering complex parts and developing innovative solutions in the manufacturing field,” said Career and Technical Education Director Joel McAuliffe. “His achievements extend beyond the classroom, as he actively participates in community service and supports career development initiatives for younger students.”

Jayden’s next step is pursuing a degree in mechanical or industrial engineering at UMass Amherst, where he plans to continue his passion for innovation and manufacturing. His dedication, technical mastery, and leadership make him a deserving recipient of this honor.

“Jayden is more than just a skilled machinist—he is an outstanding leader and mentor,” said Advanced Manufacturing instructor Amanda Thomas. “His ability to analyze, problem-solve, and continuously improve makes him a standout. Whether working on complex machining projects or helping his classmates troubleshoot, Jayden is always looking for ways to learn and support those around him.”

Former instructor Rick Huard echoed her sentiment, stating, “Jayden has evolved from a student with potential into a true leader among his peers. His drive for excellence, his humility, and his willingness to help others make him an incredible role model in the vocational technical community.”
