HPS was able to open the priority Zone Appeal process on Thursday, February 16—a few weeks earlier than expected! Zone Appeal applications can now be filed by families who wish to request their child be placed in a school other than the school they are assigned to attend.
All families of rising K-8 students (current PreK-7 students) should have received a letter mailed to their home address with their fall 2023 school assignments. If you did not receive the letter or have questions, please email enrollment@hps.holyoke.ma.us.
This priority Zone Appeal round closes on Sunday, March 19. Families are asked to apply in advance of the deadline, if possible, to give school officials more time to review applications and access supplemental information. Applications submitted after March 19 will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Contact the Enrollment Center at 413-534-2000, option 1, or email enrollment@hps.holyoke.ma.us if you need assistance.
Holyoke Public School’s Zone Appeal process was recently updated in response to feedback received during public meetings and through surveys in fall 2022. It also incorporates more objectivity and inclusive decision-making.
“Due to the rezoning effort, we are clear that now more than ever, our schools will be of similar high quality, with similar opportunities and support for all students,” said Superintendent Anthony Soto. “We strongly believe in the quality of all of our schools and the rationale and analysis that went into rezoning the district. Therefore, it is imperative that students and families give their best effort to attend their newly assigned school, reserving Zone Appeals for extraordinary circumstances.”
All current Zone Appeals are revoked effective June 30, 2023. Families who wish to apply for a Zone Appeal must submit a new application for SY23-24. Families approved for a Zone Appeal are responsible for transporting students to and from school on time every day.
