The naming plan for the new middle school that was developed by the Holyoke School Committee in April will be headed next to the Holyoke City Council for review. That’s because under the city’s charter, the Holyoke City Council has the final say about the naming of all municipal buildings. School Committee members had previously thought the final decision would rest with them.
The next step is to refer the matter to the Joint Subcommittee of the City Council and School Committee when they meet on June 13.
The new middle school is currently under construction on the site of the former William R. Peck School, with an anticipated opening date in fall 2025 or winter 2025-26.
