Students at Morgan School have a safe, enjoyable way to walk to school—as part of an award-winning walking school bus.
In partnership with the Safe Routes To School (SRTS) program organized by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), students are able to walk to school on a set route accompanied by other students, and led by volunteers and staff members. The initiative aims to improve attendance by making walking to school a more viable option for students and families.
MassDOT recently held its annual SRTS awards ceremony, celebrating the outstanding efforts of partner schools, community champions, crossing guards, and other stakeholders who have significantly contributed to enhancing safety for students walking, biking, and rolling to school.
This year, 273 schools across Massachusetts were honored for their participation in SRTS activities and events. Of the 273, four schools received the prestigious Exemplary Program award, while three schools received honorable mentions, including Morgan School.
