HPS students at most grade levels participated in a wide range of learning opportunities this summer, which helped students catch up on prior learning, stretch into new content areas, and prepare for the coming school year—all while having fun. Students and teachers alike said they loved learning in small-group settings.
“It was pretty great. I've met a lot of amazing people,” said Sullivan Middle School student Nailany Ramirez. Her classmate Arianna Resto agreed, saying her teachers were fun. “You get something to do during the summer when you don't have anything to do. I feel like it will help me going into the fall.”
Summer school teachers also reported joy and satisfaction after spending time in classrooms in July and early August.
“I really love it,” said teacher Ana Apointe, who spent her summer in a Generation Teach classroom at Sullivan Middle School. “This is my first year teaching with GT, and I'm having a great time. I love my kids. They make me laugh every day.”
E.N. White summer school teacher Maria Negroni said her students remained focused on their learning throughout the summer. “I'm so impressed and excited with this summer, because the kids are amazing,” she said. “They are enjoying being here. They are so much engaged, 100%, doing their work.”
