With more than 200 submissions to consider, the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) subcommittee of the HPS School Committee is now compiling and reviewing all of the naming suggestions for the new middle school that community members submitted through an online survey.
On Wednesday, October 9, the DEI subcommittee, along with other school and community representatives, will narrow down the list to their top 3-5 choices. Community members will be surveyed again in late October so they can vote on their preferred school name, as well as school colors and a school mascot. DEI subcommittee members will review findings from this second survey and make their recommendations when they meet on November 13. A final decision on the school name, colors, and mascot is anticipated in January 2025.
Construction work on the new middle school continues on schedule, with completion anticipated in summer 2025. Work crews have been recently working on:
Installing the main water line;
Adding sheetrock and fireproofing to internal walls;
Installing bricks adjacent to the rebar, along with foam insulation, to keep them sturdy
Framing doorways and walls with now clearly defined gym and cafeteria areas; and
Building stairwells.
