"There are so many things you can say to describe Betty," her loved ones wrote in her obituary. "She was a woman of principle who was quick witted, generous in spirit, and fierce in her protection of family, When Betty entered the room, everything would light up. And the room would be filled with good food, music, a whole lot of dancing, sarcasm, and laughter! Betty had a love for family that was unconditional and unwavering. There was nothing she wouldn't forgive, wouldn't do, or anywhere she wouldn't go for friends and family. She remembered everyone's birthday, showed up for events, and thought of the small things that let you know you mattered."
Betty graduated from Holyoke High School and then attended Holyoke Community College where she received her degree in early childhood education. A member of Bethlehem Baptist Community Church, she was active in the choir.
“Betty’s roots in Holyoke were strong, and her loss is felt deeply by staff across the district,” Superintendent Anthony Soto said. “She will always be remembered for her sharp wit, kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering commitment to Holyoke Public Schools. On behalf of our school community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Betty’s family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
