A pumpkin next to "Halloween Safety" "Costume guidelines for students at school"

HPS students and staff are preparing for fun classroom and school activities as part of Halloween celebrations in the coming week.

“While costumes are always optional, for children who do plan to wear one, we ask families to follow basic guidelines to support both safety and learning at school,” said Superintendent Anthony Soto, including:

  • No weapons, toy weapons, or props replicating weapons are permitted on school grounds at any time of the year—so they should not be part of Halloween costumes worn at school.

  • Costumes must be comfortable to wear during classroom learning and not interfere with the student’s vision, movement, or classroom activities.

  • A student’s identity must not be obscured, so avoid costumes that completely cover a child’s face, head, and body.

If you are not sure if your child’s costume plans are appropriate for wearing during the school day, please call your school office.
