Holyoke Public Schools is taking safety precautions today following reported threats of violence on social media at a number of schools in Massachusetts over the weekend. Holyoke Police are also investigating.
This morning, specific threats named Sullivan School, which may or may not have been referring to Sullivan Middle School in Holyoke. Worcester Public Schools also has a Sullivan Middle School, and that district has also been responding to social media threats, as have other school districts in the state.
At arrival time this morning, Sullivan students at HPS were scanned with a hand-held metal detector while school staff searched their bags before being allowed to proceed into the building. That search proceeded without incident.
Out of an abundance of caution, Holyoke Police will continue to maintain a heightened presence at HPS schools while the investigation continues.
Families to speak with their children about the importance of telling a trusted adult when they hear or see anything potentially dangerous.
