The sounds of clinking weights and humming treadmills fill the air in Holyoke High School North’s new fitness center, located in a renovated space on the school’s third floor. Beginning this school year, the new fitness center is being incorporated into health and physical education courses, with plans to expand its use in the future.

HPS spent more than $38,000 to renovate the room and purchase new dual-weight machines and cardio stations as part of the district’s ongoing efforts to improve student wellness and foster positive learning environments.

“Over the past year, we have intentionally focused some of our school spending efforts on improvements that bring our students joy,” said HPS Superintendent Anthony Soto. “For Holyoke High School North, one of these investments is this new exercise space. Already we are seeing students excited to work out in the fitness center, which will both support their health and well being and serve as an additional motivation for students to attend school regularly.”
