After a relatively mild winter so far, forecasters are predicting extremely cold temperatures in Holyoke in the coming days, with temperatures dropping down to a low of 2 degrees overnight.
As always, families are encouraged to dress their children in layers during the winter months. If your child needs help with cold-weather clothing or other resources, please contact your Family Engagement team member who may be able to assist. The district website also provides links to a variety of community resources you may find helpful.
As a reminder, the district has established guidance for families to follow for cancellations, delays and early releases caused by weather and other circumstances. Please be sure to check the district website first to learn about any changes to school schedules, including closures or delays.
Please also keep in mind that Monday, January 20 is a holiday in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so Holyoke Public Schools, City Hall offices, and Holyoke Public Library will be closed. All offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 21.
"As we head into extremely cold temperatures next week, we urge everyone to dress accordingly and seek shelter in heated areas if your home or work is not warm enough," Superintendent Anthony Soto said.
The CHD Warming Center, 696 Dwight Street, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and offers spaces to warm up, eat, charge phones, receive hygienic and emergency supplies, and connect with case management.
