About Channel 12
Channel 12 is the HPS educational television channel. The channel—established on April 25, 2005—is provided by Comcast for the City of Holyoke and is operated by HPS. It is operated out of the Media Center at Holyoke High School.
Channel 12 broadcasts information about the school district via “bulletin board” announcements on televisions throughout the city to residents who subscribe to Comcast. Programming is created in the HPS TV studio located at Holyoke High School. Some specific district programming broadcast on Channel 12 includes information about student pathways and success stories, assessment and accountability results, district accomplishments, educator awards, college financing, early childhood education, attendance zones, vocational and technical education and programming, graduations, drama productions, enrichment programming, athletics, HPS School Committee meetings, drop-out prevention, anti-bullying, anti-smoking, and teenage pregnancy prevention, among others.
In addition to creating content for the channel, the Media Center also provides a student cooperative opportunity for Holyoke High School students enrolled in the video production class. These students shoot and edit videos about school events, which then air on the district’s and/or city’s cable channels.
