Thanks to the hard work of HPS custodial, maintenance and facilities employees and outside vendors this summer, the district’s school buildings are undergoing some extensive repairs and remodeling that will enhance the learning environment for Holyoke students this fall. Highlights of the summer improvement work include:
Donahue:
Gym floor resurfacing
New atrium classroom wall division
Preparation work for a new play structure (to be completed later this fall)
EN White:
Repainting the metal roof
Replacing signage at main entrance
HHS Dean Campus and Holyoke STEM:
Greenhouse masonry renovations, including floor and exterior walls
New fencing at the gym parking lot and basketball court
HHS North:
Hallway doors painted purple
New electrical generator
Improved auditorium seating, including upholstery replacement and repainting of all seats
Electrical and lighting improvements for the auditorium and stage
Kelly:
New entry sidewalk concrete and other exterior concrete work, including improvements to walks and stairway
Painting work in the cafeteria, rubber gym, and exterior foundation
New fenced-in play area for Pre-K students’ use
Lawrence School:
New courtyard work and a rubber play surface
Gym floor complete refinishing
New LED lighting throughout
McMahon School:
New LED Lighting Retrofit
Major painting in the cafeteria, gym, and main office
New School Street Sign
Existing Bathroom converted for ADA access
Metcalf Middle School:
New vinyl composite tile placed in five classrooms
Entrance enhancements
Updated and improved bathroom facilities
New staff office at the main entrance
Relocated nurses suite
New signage
Rear tree and fence removal to increase play and parking space in rear of building
Lockers installed
Morgan School:
Renovation of the main vestibule to create a secure entrance
Removal and replacement of exterior concrete at door 15 to create educational outdoor learning environment
Repainting the main office and classrooms
New classroom whiteboards
New exterior amphitheater to be completed later this fall
Sullivan Middle School:
Atrium and main entrance enhancements, including renovation of the main vestibule to create a secure entrance
Main office improvements including new entry reception counter
Completely renovated interior courtyard
Painting of the entry vestibule, classroom hallways, gym and cafeteria
New signage at main entrance
Basketball court updates
Lockers installed
