Representatives from Holyoke Public Schools will be on hand during the Get Hired Job Fair at Holyoke Mall from 1-4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18 in the lower level in Macy’s Court.
HPS Director of Recruitment Christie Elman and HR Generalist Maria Borras will be staffing the district’s table during the event. In addition to sharing information about current job postings and pay scales, they can also speak to what it’s like to work for the district in both educator and support staff roles.
“The support programs that Holyoke Public Schools provides first-year teachers are considered the most robust in all of Massachusetts,” Mrs. Elman said. “We also offer differentiated professional development based on our teachers’ years of experience and support needs, so that those who need more training get more training.”
Potential employees who are considering applying for open paraprofessional positions should keep in mind that HPS supports and provides pathways for its paraprofessionals to earn teacher certification so they can advance in their careers.
Holyoke Public Schools is a PreK-12 public school district serving nearly 5,000 students, of whom 80 percent are Latino/Latina, in 13 schools for the 2024-25 school year. HPS employs nearly 1,300 people who together educate and support a richly diverse community of learners. The district has invested in recruiting and retaining top quality educators who inspire bold thinking, recognize student potential, and encourage all students to work towards their goals.
The district has established seven commitments to address equity challenges.
We intentionally build a community that is anti-racist, inclusive, and culturally responsive.
We ensure that students, families, and staff get the support they need to be successful.
We seek out and incorporate the voices of those impacted, with a commitment to include those who have been excluded in the past.
We promote access and inclusion for all students, staff, and families.
We respect, embrace and honor the diversity of our students, families, staff, and community.
We reflect on our own behavior to minimize harm to others.
We create a culture of acceptance and empathy so that everyone feels valued and is able to contribute to our community’s success.
HPS offers a stable work environment for its employees. New contracts were recently ratified for the district’s paraprofessional staff, and this year, the district is renegotiating a new contract with the Holyoke Teachers Association.
